Clean A Glock - In previous installments of the Firearm Cleaning series of articles, I discussed how to clean a firearm in relation to the AR-15 rifle. Cleaning a semi-automatic handgun is similar to cleaning a rifle, except it takes less time due to the smaller gun.
So my personal cleaning procedure for general handgun cleaning is similar to a rifle like an AR-15, except scaled down. When discussing gun cleaning, I will use the Glock 17 (Gen 3) as an example firearm. Glock pistols are very common, so this is a good demonstration weapon. Also, the cleaning of other semi-automatic pistols will take place in basically the same way.
Clean A Glock
I break down the Glock into its sub-groups, just like the AR-15 for cleaning. But the three component groups for a Glock pistol are:

I start by spraying the breech and mainly MPro-7 gun cleaner. I want the MPro-7 to penetrate the hole to loosen the dried dirt for easier cleaning. While that's going on, I'll start on the slide first.
Cleaning the image is quite simple. I use a nylon brush to scrub and stir up all the dried dirt in the slide. Then I use a cloth with MPro-7 to wipe the inner and outer surfaces of the slide.
That's about all for the picture. I do not remove the inner parts of the slides for cleaning purposes. Unless the weapon gets wet (e.g. submerged in water, rained on), I will not remove the firing pin for cleaning.
After cleaning the slide, I proceed to cleaning the barrel. I clean the hole several times to loosen the dirt in the holes.

After cleaning the bore, I then go over the barrel several times with wet (MPro-7) and dry piercing patches until the patches have minimal to no dirty streaks.
After cleaning the bore, I clean any debris on the outside of the barrel, including the barrel shroud, recoil spring area, and chamber area with a nylon brush and cloth.
Then I spray the chamber and bore with brake cleaner to remove any gunk and gun cleaner.
The last step is to clean the frame. I usually don't have to do much in this area. I like to clean the slide rails on the frame with a nylon brush and cloth with the MPro-7. I also wipe down all visible surfaces of the trigger group (trigger rod, ejector, housing, etc.). I wipe the surfaces of the frame as well as the inside of the magazine well with a cloth moistened with MPro-7.

Once everything is cleaned I proceed to lube the Glock with Slip2000 EWL. I put a grease patch over the hole to create a light coating to prevent rust. I wipe the barrel with a cloth and Slip2000 EWL. I also apply a coat of oil to the entire inner and outer surface of the slide rail and add more oil to the slide rail grooves.
Then I reassemble the gun and put oil on the barrel hood and run the slide a few times before wiping the gun with a towel to remove any excess oil.
These are my procedures for cleaning a Glock pistol. Although this is meant to be an article about how I clean my gun, and it is not the only cleaning method, I believe the procedures I have described are quite similar to how most gun owners clean their handguns.
