cleaning kit for glock

cleaning kit for glock

Cleaning Kit For Glock - Over time, I settled on a no-nonsense little minimalist cleaning/repair kit for my Glock that would fit in my purse. This small collection is the result of my military service, years of attending the local shooting range and taking shooting courses. This kit has everything I need and don't. I can do just about any maintenance on a Glock without a fatal frame or slider failure.

My preferred bag to stow my kit is the proven military surplus M16 Cleaning Kit. I chose this bag because it was small and simple, but still gave me enough space to keep my essentials close by.

Clean Glock - In the previous installments of the Cleaning Arms article series, I discussed how to clean firearms as it pertains to AR-15 firearms. Cleaning a semi-automatic handgun is very similar to cleaning a rifle, except it takes less time because of the smaller gun.

So, my personal cleaning procedure for general gun cleaning is similar to that of a rifle like an AR-15, except scaled down. In discussing gun cleaning, I will use the Glock 17 (Gen 3) as an example firearm. Glock pistols are very common, so this is a good gun to use for a demonstration. Also, cleaning other semi-automatic handguns will be done the same way.

Clean Glock

Clean Glock

I take the Glock apart into its subassemblies, just like I do with the AR-15 for cleaning. But the three component groups of a Glock pistol are:

Cleaning Guide: Glock

I start by spraying the slide and barrel with MPro-7 gun cleaner. I want the MPro-7 to soak into the hole to release the dried digestate for easier cleaning. While this is happening, I start with the slide first.

Cleaning the slide is quite simple. I will use a nylon brush to pick up and shake off any dried turbidity on the slide. I then use a shop towel with MPro-7 to wipe the inside and outside surfaces of the slide.

That's about it for the slide. Do not peel off the inside of the slide for cleaning after the range. Unless the gun gets wet (eg submerged in water, rained on), I will not strip the inside of the slide for cleaning.

After cleaning the slide, I will proceed to cleaning the barrel. I will dry the hole several times to loosen the digestate in the drill floors.

Cleaning My Glock G19 Pistol After Shooting At The Range 702

After brushing the hole, I will then go through the barrel several times with wet patches (MPro-7) and dry with a piercing jig style, until there is minimal streaking to no bend on the patches.

After cleaning the bore, I will clean any contamination on the outside of the barrel, including the hood areas, the recoil spring lug area, and the chamber area with a nylon brush and a shop towel.

After that, I will spray the chamber and clean with brake cleaner to get any residual contaminants and gun cleaner.

Clean Glock

The last step consists of cleaning the frame. I usually don't have to do much in this area. What I like to do is clean the slide rails on the frame with a nylon brush and shop towel with the MPro-7. I will also clean all visible surfaces of the trigger group (trigger bar, escapement, housing, etc.). I will thoroughly wipe the frame surfaces as well as the interior of the magazine with a wet shop towel in the MPro-7.

How To Clean The Glock 43x On Vimeo

After everything is cleaned, I proceed to oil the Glock with Slip2000 EWL. I will put an oily patch through the hole to give a light surface layer to prevent rust. I will wipe the bucket with a shop towel and Slip2000 EWL. I will also apply a layer of oil on the inner and outer surfaces of the slide, and put additional oil on the grooves of the slide rails.

I then reassemble the gun and put oil on the barrel cap area, and spin the slide a few times, then wipe the gun with a shop towel to remove the excess oil.

These are my procedures for cleaning a Glock pistol. Although this is intended to be an article discussing how to clean a gun, and not the only way to clean it, I think the procedures I have described are quite similar to how most gun owners clean their guns. The Glock 19 is one of the most popular handguns in America, and for good reason. Reliable, accurate and easy to maintain, this is the defense gun of choice for everyone from soccer moms to special operators. However, it needs to be cleaned and oiled on a regular basis. We will show you how to clean your Glock 19 in the following video and transcript.

Kevin: I'm here with Jeff Street. Jeff is the owner and lead instructor at Step by Step Gun Training, and is also a certified Glock gunsmith, and a bit of a Glock enthusiast. So, Jeff my first question to you is, how often should people clean a Glock 19? We hear different opinions on this topic. how do you see it

Jeff: If you are new to the Glock platform, you really need to clean it every time you use it. This will help you get to know how everything should look and feel when it's right. That way if something goes wrong down the road, you can fix it, probably before you have a real problem down the range.

Kevin: You'll know right away that the spring doesn't have to be in two parts. You shouldn't see a piece of metal that has a clean break on it. That kind of thing would be really obvious.

Kevin: Now, if you're new to a gun, that's how often you should clean it. What if you are a more experienced shooter? If you have taken several classes, how often should you clean it?

Clean Glock

Jeff: Well, you didn't just take a few classes, you had it for years. Well, then I have friends who still clean their Glocks from time to time. It doesn't hurt to keep it clean. It's something you rely on, so why not clean it up a little at a time?

Tekmat Tekr17glock4243 Original Cleaning Mat Glock 42/43 Parts Diagram 11\

Kevin: Okay Jeff. So after a person is done shooting, and wants to go home and clean their Glock 19, what are the procedures they should do to unload it? We have one here that is being disassembled. We both checked. It even has a little barrel block, so we definitely know it's unloaded. So, walk us through it.

Jeff: First things first, make sure there is no live ammunition in the room, except for what might be in here (your gun). You open the bag and give it a look before touching the gun to make sure the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction. So you're going to remove the magazine, if there's a magazine in there, then push the magazine release, pull the magazine out, make sure it's empty.

Jeff: Now, when I touch a weapon, I do it in my bathroom and I have a toilet in my bathroom. I have a bathroom even if I'm in a hotel room. I pull the gun out without ever touching the trigger, and I aim it at the toilet so that if it goes off, the bullet will go into the water, slow down a little there, hit the porcelain. , and stop there. You're breaking the toilet, which I don't want to do at all. I have to turn off the water so I don't flood the house, and I have to call my plumber, so I'm very motivated not to do it. Then I lowered the slide three times, and of course put my finger in the magazine to make sure there was no magazine in there, which I just pulled out. I arrange it three times. That way, if I did it wrong and I jam it once, I might see one round come out, but if I see another round, I probably haven't fired the magazine yet.

So after I give it three times, I'll lock the slide open. If you are someone who has very short thumbs, you may need to turn your body, but still keep your chin in the direction of the toilet seat. So you lock the slide open and then you check again. There is no magazine, and you put your finger in the chamber to make sure there are no bullets in there, and you look down the magwell to see daylight. You check both visually and tactilely to make sure the weapon is fully unloaded. Now, I'm still pointing at the toilet. With a Glock, you have to pull the trigger to remove it. Any gun I don't remove with a round in the chamber regardless. I'm going to let the slide go forward, and pointing at the toilet again, I'm going to pull the trigger. Next, I want to release the tension on the spring and slowly pull the slide back. It's slowly and you'll feel a little click when you do it. After that, it has a release handle here. This is the slide release, and you have to pull it from both sides at the exact same time. Then, let the slide move forward. It comes right away. Now I have a frame and I have the slide. In the slide I will remove the recoil spring and the barrel. We basically have four main parts now that we're going to clean up.

Jeff: If you are new to the Glock platform, you need to clean it every time you use it. This will help you become familiar with how it should look and feel. That way, if something goes wrong along the way, you'll be able to fix it, possibly before you have an actual problem with the domain.

Kevin: You'll know right away because the spring doesn't have to be in two parts. You should not see a piece of metal that has a clean break. Something like this would be really obvious.

Kevin: Now, if you're new to a gun, here's how often you should clean it. What if you are a more experienced shooter? If you have multiple classes, how often should you clean it?

We both checked. It also has a small barrel block in there so we know it's unloaded. So walk us through it.

How To Clean & Lubricate Your Glock In 10 Minutes

Jeff: First thing, make sure there's no live ammo in the room except maybe in here (your rifle). Take a look before you open the holster and touch the gun to make sure the muzzle is in the safe direction. Then you are going to remove the magazine, if there is a magazine, press the mag release, pop the magazine out and check that it is empty.

Jeff: Now, when I go to touch a gun, I do it in my bathroom and I have a toilet in my bathroom. Even though it was in a hotel room, I got a toilet. I take out the gun, without touching the trigger at all, and I point it at the edge of the toilet bowl so that it comes out, the bullet will enter the water, slow down there, hit the porcelain and stop there. It will ruin the toilet, which I don't want to do anything about. I have to turn off the water valve to avoid flooding the house and I have to call my plumber, so I am very motivated not to do that. Then I racked the slide three times and of course put my finger on the magazine to make sure it wasn't the magazine I just fired. I rack it three times. That way, if I do it and cock it once, I might see a round come out, but if I see another round come out, I probably haven't ejected the magazine yet.

So after I tap it three times, I'm going to close the slide open. If you are a person with very short fingers, you may have to turn your body, but you should still point your muzzle at the toilet bowl. Then you close the open slide and then check again. You put your finger in the chamber to make sure there is no magazine and no rounds and you look down through the maguga to see daylight. You check both visually and tactilely to make sure the gun is fully unloaded. Now I'm still pointing at the toilet bowl. With a Glock, you have to pull the trigger to set it. Whatever gun it is, I don't shoot it out with a bullet in the chamber. I'll let the slide go forward and, once again pointing at the toilet bowl, pull the trigger. Then I have to release the spring tension and pull the slide back a bit. It's a bit small and you feel a bit of a squeeze when you do it. Then, it has a release lever here. It is a slide release and you have to pull it on both sides at exactly the same time. Then let the slide come forward. It comes out right. Now I have the frame and I have the slide. On the slide I will remove the recoil spring and barrel. We basically have four main parts that we are going to clean.

Cleaning A Glock

Jeff: Now we've broken down the gun into its four main parts. If you take a nylon brush, you can also use a toothbrush if you want (just don't use your toothbrush) and you will blow away as much carbon as possible. Just a brush, and you want to use a nylon brush. You don't want to use any kind of wire brush because you're going to scrape things off and tear up your gun on the inside. Do the same with slides. It's really good with brushes and barrels. Go ahead and clean it up, get the most of it.

Tekmat Unisex Adult Glock Gen4 Grey Gun Cleaning Mat, Black, One Size

If you have really stubborn carbon build-up and want to get it out of there, I recommend something that doesn't smell like breakthrough clean. You spray it on and it's odorless so you can do it inside your home. Let it soak a little. Then you go over it with Q-tips. You just walk around and look for dirt. Do not leave large pieces of cotton from the Q-tip inside your gun. When you get that and you see the q-tips are dirty here and you go through some q-tips, get it nice and clean.

Now you need to reassemble your gun and prime your gun, but before you do that you need to clean the inside of your barrel. What I recommend for this is a slow snake. What is a slow snake, it has a weight on its side, it has a thread, and then it has fabric. It has a bristle brush built right into it. Now this is metal, but metal that is softer than your gun metal so it won't scratch your gun. If you see a bit of carbon here or anywhere else on the feed ramp, you don't want to take a sharp, hard piece of metal and scrape it off. These pieces have a finish all over and you don't want to ruin that finish. After removing the barrel from the gun, I release the weight through the barrel. I pull it and pull it a few times. It takes two or three times. If you want to check it out and see how well a dull snake works, you can run a regular old fashioned patch through your barrel and see if it's not dirty. After you run your boring snake through there.

Now you need to oil your Glock 19. I have a nice little needle and I just use motor oil, but you can use your favorite gun oil and oil you channels. The barrel is where you seal the oil. Place a loop around the barrel here and jump onto it. Then, slide the frame and cap as well right where it rubs against the top of the barrel. Then we have to lubricate the connector, which is here, and I put a little drop on the drip protection.

Let me go ahead and reassemble the gun. Put the barrel back in, put the recoil spring back in, and then we want to put the slide. You have to go on these two trains. Some people think you have to start here, but you start here on the rails.

Cleaning Guide: Glock

Now we have to test the gun. We're still going to point the gun in that toilet when we pull the trigger and I'm going

I start by spraying the breech and mainly MPro-7 gun cleaner. I want the MPro-7 to penetrate the hole to loosen the dried dirt for easier cleaning. While that's going on, I'll start on the slide first.

After cleaning the bore, I then go over the barrel several times with wet (MPro-7) and dry piercing patches until the patches have minimal to no dirty streaks.

After cleaning the bore, I clean any debris on the outside of the barrel, including the barrel shroud, recoil spring area, and chamber area with a nylon brush and cloth.

Then I spray the chamber and bore with brake cleaner to remove any gunk and gun cleaner.

The last step is to clean the frame. I usually don't have to do much in this area. I like to clean the slide rails on the frame with a nylon brush and cloth with the MPro-7. I also wipe down all visible surfaces of the trigger group (trigger rod, ejector, housing, etc.). I wipe the surfaces of the frame as well as the inside of the magazine well with a cloth moistened with MPro-7.

Once everything is cleaned I proceed to lube the Glock with Slip2000 EWL. I put a grease patch over the hole to create a light coating to prevent rust. I wipe the barrel with a cloth and Slip2000 EWL. I also apply a coat of oil to the entire inner and outer surface of the slide rail and add more oil to the slide rail grooves.

Then I reassemble the gun and put oil on the barrel hood and run the slide a few times before wiping the gun with a towel to remove any excess oil.

These are my procedures for cleaning a Glock pistol. Although this is meant to be an article about how I clean my gun, and it is not the only cleaning method, I believe the procedures I have described are quite similar to how most gun owners clean their handguns.

Reliable, accurate and easy to maintain, it's the defense pistol of choice for everyone from soccer moms to special operators. However, it needs to be cleaned and lubricated regularly. We'll show you how to clean your Glock 19 in the video and transcript below.

Kevin: I'm here with Jeff Street. Jeff is the owner and head instructor of Step-by-Step Gun Training, and is also a certified Glock gunsmith and a bit of a Glock enthusiast. So Jeff, my first question to you is, how often should a Glock 19 be cleaned? We hear many different opinions about it. As you see?

Cleaning Glock

Cleaning Glock

Jeff: If you are new to the Glock platform, you should clean it every time you use it. It will help you get familiar with how everything should look and feel when it's right. That way, if something isn't right down the road, you'll be able to fix it, possibly before you have a real problem down the road.

How Often Should You Clean Your Gun And What Can Happen If You Don't

Kevin: You'll know right away because the spring doesn't snap in two. You should not see a piece of metal with a clean crack. Something like that would be really obvious.

Kevin: Now if you're new to the gun, that's how often you should clean it. Are you a more experienced shooter? If you have taken several lessons, how often should you clean yourself?

Jeff: Well, not just a few classes, you've been taking it for years. Well then I have friends who still clean their Glock from time to time. It doesn't hurt to clean it. It's something you depend on, so why not clean it up a bit once in a while?

Kevin: Okay Jeff. So after someone is done shooting and wants to go home and clean their Glock 19, what do they do to unload it? Here we have one that is downloadable. We both confirm it. There's even a small barrel block in there, so we know for sure it's a downgrade. So walk with us.

Big Tex Promat Gun Cleaning Mats

Jeff: First, make sure there's no live ammunition in the room except what might be here (your gun). Before touching the gun, open the holster and listen to make sure the bolt is in a safe direction. Then you're going to eject the magazine, if there's a magazine in it, then press the magazine release, eject the magazine, check that it's empty.

Jeff: Now when I go to touch the gun, I do it in my bathroom and I have a toilet in the bathroom. Even if I'm in a hotel room, I have the bathroom. I draw the gun without touching the trigger, and aim it at the toilet bowl so that if it goes off, the bullet will go into the water, slow down there a bit, hit the porcelain, and stop there. It'll break the toilet, which I don't want to do. I have to turn on the water valve so I don't flood the house and I have to call my plumber so I'm really excited not to. I then pull up the slide three times and of course stick my finger into the mag well to make sure there is no magazine in there, which I just removed. I do it three times. That way, if I did this offline and fired it once, I might see the round come out, but if I see the next round come out, I may not have ejected the magazine yet.

So, after I have lifted it three times, I will lock the slide to open it. If you're a very short-fingered person, you may have to turn your body, but you still put your penis in the toilet bowl. So you lock the slide open, then check again. There's no magazine, and you stick your finger in the chamber to make sure there are no bullets, and look down through the magwell to see the light of day. He checks both visually and tactically to make sure the weapon is fully unloaded. Now, I keep pointing to the toilet bowl. With a Glock, you have to pull the trigger to disengage it. I will not remove any weapons from the room. I'll let the slide run and, aiming for the toilet bowl, I'll go for the trigger. Then I need to release the spring tension and pull back on the slide a bit. It's a little small and you feel a little push when you do it. Then you have a release lever here. This is a slideshow and you need to download it at exactly the same time on both sides. Then let the slide go. That's how it is. Now I have a frame and I have a slide. On the slide, I'll remove the recoil spring and barrel. We basically have four main parts that we will clean up.

Cleaning Glock

Jeff: We've now separated the gun into its four main parts: the slide, recoil spring, barrel, and frame. If you take a nylon brush, you can also use a toothbrush if you want (just don't use your toothbrush) and just scrape off as much carbon as you can. Just brush, and you'll want to use a nylon brush. You don't want to use a metal brush of any kind because you will scratch things and scratch the inside of the gun. Do the same with the slide. It goes very well with the brush, and with the barrel. Go ahead and rub it in, get rid of most of it.

Glock 40 Mos [review]: A 10mm Hand Cannon

If you have really tough carbon buildup and want to get it out, I recommend something that doesn't smell like botched cleaning. You spray it on and it's odorless so you can do it inside your house. Let it melt for a while. Then, you go over it with q-tips. You just look around and see the dirt. Do not leave large pieces of cotton from the q-tip inside your gun. When you get it and you see the swabs here get dirty and you go through a few swabs, give it a good wipe down.

You will now need to reassemble and oil your gun, but before you do that you need to clean the inside of your barrel. What I recommend for that is a cut snake. What is a boring snake? There's a weight at the end, there's a rope, and then there's this cloth. It has a glitter brush on it. Now this is metal, but it's metal that's softer than the metal of your weapon, so it won't damage your weapon. If you see some coal here or anywhere else on the feed chute, you don't want to drop something sharp, a hard piece of metal and grind it up. All of these pieces have a finish and you don't want to ruin that finish. With the barrel off the gun, I drop the weight down the barrel. I shoot it, and only a couple of times. Two or three times is necessary. If you want to check this out and see how well a bored snake does, you can see how well a wounded snake does, you can run a regular old patch down your barrel and see if it's not too dirty. all after you have passed through your snake wound.

Now you need to oil your Glock 19. I have a nice little needle and I only use motor oil, but you can use your favorite gun barrel and grease the channels. In the barrel, you lubricate where it's closed. Here put a ring around the barrel and screw it on. Then the frame and sliding cover are also there, where it burns out at the top of the barrel. Then we have to lubricate the connector that's right here, and I put a little bead on the drop lock.

Let me go ahead and reassemble the gun. Reattach the barrel, reattach the return spring, and then we want to attach the slide. You just have to go to these two tracks. Some people think they have to start over here, but you start right here on the road.

Now, we need to test the functionality of the weapon. We're still gonna put the gun in that toilet when we pull the trigger, and I'm gonna go
